Upon request, NTL provides a DOI registration service through DOE’s Interagency DOI Service. DOIs resolve to a landing page with descriptive metadata about the content. Obtaining a DOI for your research is an essential step in making your research accessible to the public. The Department of Transportation aims to have DOIs for all their research and datasets produced and made accessible internally. While externally housed research and their researchers are responsible for the creation of their own persistent identifiers, DOT records these PIDs as part of our cataloging process. All researchers that produce research and data housed in the National Transportation Library's Repository ROSA P are strongly encouraged to obtain a DOI.
To submit a request for a DOI or a batch of DOIs for research to be published soon, please follow the steps below:
When completing the forms, you may be asked for a number of details, as listed below. Provide as much information at you can. If you are unable to complete a required entry, then simply put in something to complete the form so we can provide you with the needed DOI and then we will update the DOI when the details are finalized:
If either of these forms do not meet your DOI needs please email us directly at NTL_DOIs@dot.gov and we will do our best to assist you.
When requesting more than 1 DOI, it may be useful to fill out a spreadsheet template. This template is useful if you have metadata you would like to include with your DOI request or if your data is already in a spreadsheet. The following is a brief description of each column and the information needed for that field. No field is required for this request, but if the spreadsheet is blank or nearly blank, please do not use the template and only complete the "Requesting more than one DOI" form. To submit the template, please complete the form and then deposit the template in the file submission box at the end of the form.
