NTKN Guide Guidelines: Assets

When adding assets or reusing assets for NTKN LibGuides, please conform to the following guidelines.

Assets include links, media/widgets, Books from a catalog, documents/files, RSS feeds, and remote scripts. See the Databases tab for information regarding access to databases for NTKN LibGuides.

Check first to see whether asset that you want to use already exists. When you go to add a Link (just one example), click on Reuse Existing Link, then search for a keyword in the title of the link.

If it does exist,

(1) Reuse it.

(2) Do not add duplicate assets.

If the asset that you want to use does not exist,

(3) Create it.

(4) Give each asset a full name.

(4a) Take the name from the asset itself. Do not make up names for assets.

(4b) Do not use intialisms, abbreviations, or acronyms, unless the resource is formally known in that way (for example, ROSA-P, TRID).

(5) Do not leave the description field blank.

(5a) Give a brief description. Copy and paste from the asset itself if possible.

(5b) Include the asset's URL.

(6) If the asset is a publication, consider adding the publication date after the asset name, like Organizational Structure of Field Construction Personnel (2017) or you can include as part of the description "Publication Date: 2017."

(7) For Window Target, set to “Open in new window.”  This is not the default.

Catalog Assets

Reserve the catalog asset category for when you are adding library catalog or OPAC record and you will be adding a catalog URL for the item. For catalog URLs, use publicly accessible links (preferably WorldCAT). If a thumbnail image isn't readily available, it can be uploaded and linked to from the Image Manager.
