NTL complies with the ICT Refresh Federal Rule by:
- Developing accessibility best practices according the Section 508 law and Section 508 Electronic and Information Technology Accessibility Standards
- Reviewing the accessibility of all NTL Digital submissions published on or after March 23, 2018
- Contacting document submitters if the PDF fails the accessibility tool check in Adobe Acrobat Pro DC and requesting re-submissions
- Helps remediate any remaining accessibility errors to be as fully compliant as possible
- Sends a confirmation email to the document submitter upon acceptance and cataloging
- Provides a courtesy copy of the revised PDF to the submitter attached to the cataloging confirmation email
- Ensures that all new catalog submissions are compliant prior to ingesting into the NTL catalog and ROSA P
- Reviews accessibility of revised NTL Digital Submissions PDFs, including document corrections for documents existing in ROSA P
- Revises Top 25 Most Popular Downloads from ROSA P to improve accessibility of NTL legacy content that is accessed most often
NTL librarians improve accessibility of NTL content by:
- Maintaining regular communication with the USDOT Section 508 Coordinator
- Offering training on making documents accessible and
- Provide live captioning during webinars, where possible
- Working to create and publish accessible content, products, and systems
- Collaborating with DOT modes and ROSA P stakeholders
- Maintaining leadership roles in Federal initiatives
- Advocating accessibility along with promoting public access to Federally Funded research
- Identifying areas for future improvement
Most newly published PDF documents will be accessible to those who use assistive technology such as screen readers. Legacy created PDF files may not be accessible. If you are experiencing any difficulty reading any PDF files in ROSA P, please contact NTL's Ask a Librarian service and we will create an alternate version for you.
