Traffic Safety Culture: Statistics

The Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS), part of the Department of Transportation (DOT) is the preeminent source of statistics on commercial aviation, multimodal freight activity, and transportation economics, and provides context to decision makers and the public for understanding statistics on transportation. Safety is one of many topics that the BTS provides statistics on.

The Highway Statistics Series consists of annual reports containing analyzed statistical information on motor fuel, motor vehicle registrations, driver licenses, highway user taxation, highway mileage, travel, and highway finance. Safety statistics are presented in chapter 12 of the 2022 edition.

The National Safety Council (NSC) is a nonprofit safety advocate. Their site provides monthly and semi-annual statistics on motor-vehicle deaths in the US.
