NTKN Communities of Practice: Artificial Intelligence

This is the homepage for the NTKN Community of Practice for data curation efforts and data librarians.

All upcoming meetings are listed on the NTKN calendar.

Leadership:

  • Enid White (Wyoming DOT), Co-Chair: Enid is a degreed paralegal, Section 508 coordinator, and Research Manager for the Wyoming Department of Transportation.  She has been working with WYDOT for more than 14 years and sits on and is a friend of many different AASHTO and TRB subcommittees.
  • Katie Widmann (OK Transportation Library), Chair: Katie is a librarian at the Oklahoma Transportation Library and its partner, the Southern Plains Transportation Center. She worked in the public library for seven years before joining OTL and SPTC in September 2022. As the resident Jill-of-all-trades, she is responsible for everything from original cataloging of materials to website maintenance. She received her M.L.I.S. from OU in 2018, and her B.A.Ed. from the University of Central Oklahoma in 2013.
  • Geoffrey Potter (TxDOT), Co-Chair. Geoffrey works at the TxDOT Research Library out of the University of Texas at Austin. Geoffrey earned his library degree in 2018, including a class specifically focused on role and abilities of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and various algorithms towards findability. He has conducted at least 6 literature reviews over the years, each becoming more specific on this topic. The first was a general survey of how AI/ML works, and more recently a literature survey on how libraries currently use AI/ML, either to establish the best practice or simply a baseline. Geoffrey was asked to be a part of a panel at the 2023 TRB named “are we there yet?” on AI/ML best practices and/or state of the art. He is currently a member of the university library’s special interest group that discusses AI/ML at monthly meetings.
