Guide Encounter:
For all you tadpoles out there - this guide is simple – only three tabs. But oh, the places you will go! The first tab lists transportation organizations that hold webinars and other presentations for everyone in the pond and beyond. Start with the first listing, Transportation Research Board (TRB), and follow the trail through listings including American Association of State Highway & Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and all the way down to the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering. Each listing lets potential learners know whether there is an entrance charge (and even what that fee usually is), the holds the key to the exhibit (AKA, the web site URL to the organization training listings), and lets learners know whether the organization provides Professional Development Hours (PDH).
If we’ve toad you once, we’ve toad you a thousand times, these LibGuides are ribbiting with useful resources. Clicking on the links for the organizations shows that there is truly something for everyone, even the youngest pollywogs. Upcoming webinars include TRB’s Enter the Portal - The Transportation Performance Management (TPM) Portal and National Highway Institute’s Safety Data and Analysis Fundamentals Training.
The second tab lists University Transportation Center (UTC) Resources. You would “toadally” think that universities offer superb training, and you will not be disappointed. Portland State University offers two excellent transportation education centers: National Institute for Transportation and Communities (NITC) and Transportation Research and Education Center (TREC). Everyone at the LibGuide Petting Zoo is excited about one of NITC’s upcoming webinars: Economic and Business Outcomes of Bicycle and Pedestrian Improvements. And just what we need at the zoo, a webinar on Road Dust Management - Sharing Community Experiences from our friends at University of Alaska Fairbanks. See more UTC webinars from all over the country at https://www.transportation.gov/content/utc-webinars-register-now.
The third tab lists vendor trainings, with a link to an assortment of free engineering online courses. The guide producer is soliciting additional listings for all 3 tabs, so if your organization provides online transportation training, contact laura.e.wilt@odot.state.or.us and let her know, just like one of our favorite amphibians below is doing.
